My New Year’s Resolution Is…To Get Ahead of Things Early This Year!

2020 is finally here! This year’s goals seem to outweigh others as not only is this the start of a new year, but the start of a new decade. With this opportunity for a fresh start at the forefront of everyone’s minds, many of us have made New Year’s resolutions; Team Wren has even created a board of them for our office! Since resolutions seem to be a hot topic at the moment, we decided to post a blog series on some of the most common New Year’s resolutions, and how to stick to them! This week, we will be talking about those of us whom have sworn to stay organized and ahead of the craziness this year.

Here are 4 ways for you to get ahead of 2020!

#1. Disaster Planning.

Living in Florida, we are no strangers to natural disasters, especially hurricanes. In the insurance industry we witness the same mistakes every year – clients not being prepared early. It is SO important to prepare your insurance and your property before the storms arrive, as calling mid-hurricane season can be such a headache (especially when it is too late to adjust your coverage). We have both a hurricane guide, as well as other storm related blogs on our website in order to get your prepared for the storms ahead. This year, get prepared before the storms. Make sure you have the appropriate amount of coverage and contact us to ensure that you are prepared for the rigorous hurricane season that our coast often faces.

#2. Budget.

Saving money is always a good idea, right? Many of us plan on attempting to save money this year, and a great way to do that is to budget. Whether you are a teenager, a college student, a single adult, a married adult, a family man; whatever your socioeconomic status, saving money and budgeting is always a valued skill and 2020 is the time to really stick to your budget. If working with an annual salary, write out a yearly budget. If working hourly, write out a monthly or even a weekly budget. Writing down your goals, tracking your efforts, and making intentional decisions to stick to your budget will make a major difference in you staying on top of your financial position in 2020. Check in next week for a more detailed post on how to save money in 2020.

#3. Schedule. Schedule. Schedule.

This may seem like an obvious one, but, many of us do not plan ahead as far out as we should. How many of us wait to plan our vacations until the Spring? Or the Summer? How many of us contact out of town family members about our children’s recitals a few weeks before? How many of us have friends or family arrive unexpectedly for surprise trips? How many of us don’t know who is hosting Thanksgiving or Christmas until September? If your resolution is to stay ahead in 2020, then try and schedule your family events and trips now (yes, in January). Plan your trip for the Summer, pick a tentative weekend for your family to come to your children’s soccer game, and plan where you will be traveling for the holidays ahead of time. Having your year planned out now, will save you a lot of stress later in the year.

#4. Insurance Checklist.

When trying to get organized and ahead of things early, it is important to ensure that you have all of your boxes checked. At Wren, we want to ensure that you don’t have any unanswered questions when it comes to your insurance, so here is an insurance policy checklist overviewing the six major policy types that you and your loved ones should have in order to stay protected in 2020.

  • Homeowner’s/Renter’s Insurance
    • Protect your home.
  • Auto Insurance
    • Protect your transportation.
  • Life Insurance
    • Protect your loved ones.
  • Flood Insurance
    • Protect your assets.
  • Umbrella Insurance
    • Protect it all.
  • Health Insurance
    • Team Wren does not provide health insurance; however, we acknowledge it as an essential piece in your protection nest.

Getting organized and staying prepared at the beginning of year is a goal that ALL of us should have, and it is something that we are all capable of achieving. We hope that these quick tips helped you prepare yourself for the journey ahead, no matter what this year has in store for you and your loved ones.
